Congo Cheerleaders Cheer On Camp

The final assembly happened this afternoon as two of our camps had performances prepared for the end of session 3.

One of these camps was the Congo Cheerleaders who have been practicing their various moves and routines to ensure they had knowledge of them.

Today, they showed that they had that knowledge by performing for the rest of the campers. Their performance demonstrated their skills and abilities and we congratulate them on an excellent ending exhibition!

Slippery and Slick Slime

Hands on Science finished off their experiments this session by creating slime.
The campers began with glue and then mixed in a few ingredients to make the shapeshifting slime.

Later this afternoon, they did an encore of the mentos and Diet Coke experiment to see that extreme explosion one more time.

These campers had lots of fun doing experiments that allowed them to both see and feel the science in the world around us!

Extra, Extra: Congo Camp Invaded!

UFOs have invaded the Congo Camp today. The How Things Work campers created electric flying saucers today to set off outside.

These saucers utilized all of the information about which the campers have been learning. Starting with batteries, the campers connected the wires correctly to get the saucer to wind up.

Once the campers had sent enough electricity into the motor, the saucers flew into the air and it became a storm of UFOs.

Our How Things Work campers definitely learned a lot this week while having loads of fun. We are glad to see these campers getting to put all of their knowledge to use on this last day and we know they will always be able to use this interesting information!

The Incredible Paper Race

The Arts & Crafts counselors had quite an event set-up for our Olympic competitors: paper airplane contests.

After folding their paper airplanes, the countries lined up outside and tried to get their plane to go the farthest.

So far, Russia was in the lead, but we have many countries preparing to compete over the next few hours. We hope that these campers are able to fold their planes well and attempt a few good flights!

Chocolate Forests, Sundae S'mores, and Sugary Sweets

The Congo Chefs were reaching the conclusion of their baking bonanza today as they finished off their delicious dessert plates.

Each group was actually able to amass all of the terrific treats they bought yesterday onto the tops of their cakes.

One group created a candy land forest while another created three different castles in a candy kingdom. The last group had a different approach and decided to do a little modification to a sundae.

By making s'mores and then adding rainbow sherbet, the campers showed that any traditional treat can be refreshed and updated. One of the major updates this group made was not just adding some sherbet but also candy toppings.

Each final product looked delicious and showed the amount of effort these campers were willing to put forth to construct a creative creation.

Tunneling through Friday in Book Making

Book Making has two major projects on which they will be working during their final day.

The first project is called a tunnel book. To make this book they actually cut out the inside of squares of paper and glued them together in a specific way to make it look like a paper tunnel.

After making this tunnel book, the Book Making campers started on Star Books. These books are one of the most intricate that they have made this week and they had all been anxiously waiting to begin them.

The counselors took it slow so each of the campers could ensure that they were keeping up with the directions and, as soon as these books are finished, we will have more pictures up to see them!

Hooking the Horseshoes

Although it is great to be an athlete who excels at one sports, our day campers have been proving that they are versatile in being able to move between all sports.

Our younger day campers have had to demonstrate this ability today as they move from event to event.

An Olympic event that is requiring our campers to show their handeye coordination today is horseshoes. The younger day campers will be trying to ring the horseshoes around the stakes to gain points for their country.

So far, these campers have been hitting the mark to show that not only do they have the ability to run quickly for relays but also to eye their target for a score!

Outdoor Ed Track Races

For the Olympics, Outdoor Ed was hosting Track Races in which campers had to complete a relay, as a team.

The challenge was not just the race, but that each team had to either skip or gallop to get to and from the end point.

Unlike some races that merely need fast-paced runner, these track races required the campers to show they had the ability to race without running.

As the campers skipped, their team cheered them on to keep up the energy and united spirit to win the race!

The Opening Ceremony

To kick off the Olympics, Congo Camp had an Opening Ceremony before letting all the groups head off to the events.

A special appearance was made by Zippy to celebrate the beginning of the Olympics. After arriving, Zippy led the campers in the National Anthem.

Once the Anthem was finished, the torch was lit by Zippy signaling the start of the events.
We wish all the teams good luck as they participate in the various activities that are occurring!

Final Friday of Session 3

As the final day begins, we are all getting excited for the major event that will be occurring today: the Olympics.

Each group has selected a country to represent and has been preparing for this day all week! A few of the countries represented are Wales, Spain, and Bhutan.

For the Olympics, each country will participate in various activities and compete to earn the top scores at each event.

Weekend Quest to Philadelphia

During the first weekend in August (Friday the 6th-Sunday the 8th), we are inviting rising 3rd to 9th graders to attend a Weekend Quest City Trip to Philadelphia, PA.

Miss Ashley, the assitant camp director, and Miss Kristin, a RN and experienced travel camp counselor, will be leading our traveling campers on their journey.

There will be multiple events, such as visiting the Liberty Bell and touring the Phillies Stadium, that will be happening over the weekend. The staff here is excited for this weekend and we are hoping that you are getting excited to come on the Quest City Trip.

Show Your Spirit in Arts & Crafts

The Arts & Crafts counselors had the day campers coloring the Spanish flag today to celebrate the victory they had during the World Cup!

Arts & Crafts counselors had premade flags so that the campers could get the coloring scheme correct and, after they were finished, the flags looked good enough to have been shown at the World Cup game.

It was great to see our campers enjoying their time during Arts & Crafts today and make sure to be on the lookout as these campers carry home their clay creations tonight.

New Releases from Movie Making Camp

The Movie Making campers have finally finished their films. Tomorrow, these campers will be having the first releases of the feature films.

A sneak peek occurred for some staff today, though, and they had the chance to view some of the films before their release.

One of the films was a great music video starring campers portraying Alvin & the Chipmunks while another film was a western.

These campers have shown their ability to craft an excellent film and we already give them "two thumbs up" for their soon-to-be-released films!

Flapping Flags in Book Making

The Book Making campers were testing out their ability to make a new book today: the flag book. No, the pages aren't filled with actual flags, but they are filled with paper "flags" that represent the campers' interests.

One of the campers drew a flower on each flag and created a botanist's dream book. Another camp decided to make a book for her brother.

As the end of the session slowly draws upon us, these campers are trying to complete as many books as they can before they camp ends.

We hope these campers have had fun making books during camp, because we all have enjoyed seeing their final products!
