Campers having fun in Outdoor Ed.

The Outdoor Ed counselors had our campers doing one of the best summer activities to stay cool: having a carwash. 

As day campers headed over to the Outdoor Ed counselors, they got to get hosed down and then start playing in the soap and water to stay cool.

Each camper loved getting splashed with the hose and rained on by the water as they scrubbed the cars clean.  They got to clean some admin and camp staff cars while staying cool and comfortable.

We hope they have fun as the are working at the carwash!

In Outdoor Ed, the day campers have learned many important skills for surviving in the wilderness.  Today, the campers practiced one of the most important: making a usable fire.

To make this fire the campers had to set up an A-Frame.  The A-Frame fire is based on sticks positioned in the shape of an "A" to help the fire burn properly.

Once the frame was set, the Outdoor Ed counselor lit the wood to see how well the fires burned.  The campers definitely showed a knowledge of survival skills because their fires burned well.

We hope the campers remember all of the skills they learned in Outdoor Ed the next time they go camping!

In outdoor ed, the day campers are having fun today cooking up some s'mores.

Before making the delicious gooey desserts, the campers had to find good sticks on which to roast their marshmallows.  Once the marshmallows were roasted, they got to add all the parts that s'mores require to make them tasty.

The campers had fun ensuring their marshmallows were roasted to their liking and each camper enjoyed the delicious daytime treat they had made.

As Shark Week continues on Discovery Channel, our Outdoor Ed counselors had their own version of Shark Week by having campers play Sharks vs. Minnows.

Armed with water in water bottles, the campers who were sharks had to spray our minnows with water.  Rather than merely "eating" the minnows, these sharks actually gained more finned brethren. 

Those who were the minnows, though, played an excellent game and ran as quickly as they could across the "waters". 

It was thrilling to see these campers race against the sharks as they swam their way to the other side. 

For the Olympics, Outdoor Ed was hosting Track Races in which campers had to complete a relay, as a team.

Outdoor Ed invited campers to a relaxing day around the fire pit as they made S'mores.

In Outdoor Ed, the Congo Day Campers are enjoying a different form of water: the creek.

Well, it may not be the holidays, but at Outdoor Ed today, the campers got to help with the roasting of bananas on the fire.

Outdoor education counselors help students learn how to use the materials that surround them to live outdoors.

Today, the lesson was how to build a fire. But, no matches or lighters were used to start this fire, rather the campers learned how to use wood as ignition.

Although they didn't light the fire, they learned how to keep it always burning--and how to put it out properly--while outdoors.
