Getting Goals in Soccer

Our Footland Soccer campers have been enjoying this week as they continue to ensure that they have all of their new skills learned well.

These campers have been braving the heat each day as they run around and practice dribbling and kicking the soccer ball.

They have also been enjoying playing soccer games with fellow campers during the day.  We hope these campers have fun on their last two days of camp and get to have a lot of time on the field!

Slicing through Summer with Scissors

Our soccer campers in action.
No, we aren't talking about Arts & Crafts, but, actually, Footland Soccer camp!

The scissor is a form of movement in soccer and the campers were practicing their ability to do this movement well today.

Yesterday, these campers had fun getting to be out in the sun showing their skills.  They move with agility and speed and were excited to continue this morning playing soccer.

We hope these campers continue to have fun over the course of the session and we know we will be seeing these excellent players at the World Cup someday.

Soccer Pros Meet a Soccer Pro

Mr. Burch signing autographs.
Today, the Soccer Pros campers had the chance to meet a player from DC United.  Marc Burch, #4, came by today to talk with and watch our campers.

The exciting part of the visit was when Mr. Burch autographed shirts and pictures.

All of the campers tried to ensure that they got their shirt signed and are awaiting tomorrow when they get to meet more of the DC United team.

Scrimmaging in Soccer

Our Soccer Pros scrimmaging.
The Soccer Pros arrived to the end of the day by having some pickup games of scrimmage soccer.

Some of the campers got a chance to participate in some soccer activities while other campers played against each other to vie for a win for their team.

All of our Soccer Pro campers have been having a blast the past two days as they enhance their soccer skills by shooting and scoring.

Sliding around in Sports

The Slip and Slide on the hill!
The Sports counselors set up the slip and slide today, so day campers could stay cool as the day heats up.

All of the day campers had loads of fun sliding down the slide into the nice cool pool of water at the bottom.  The sports counselors helped to make the slide even more enjoyable by adding some turns and hills to it.

As the Tsunami Thursday continues, all of the day camp groups will be having fun as they slip and slide down to the bottom.

Calling all Lacrosse Players

The campers in the midst of a Lacrosse game.
The day campers had the chance to enjoy some Lacrosse in Sports today.

They have played many games over the course of the session, but all of the campers were enjoying the game of Lacrosse today.

Every camper had their position and then got to get a lacrosse stick to practice throwing and catching the Lacrosse ball.

Each of the campers did their best to score a goal and they all showed excellent ability and agility to get the ball across the field.

Soccer Fun in Sports

Looking out onto the Soccer field at Sports.
To start off Wednesday, our Sports counselors had our day campers playing a relaxing game of soccer.  Although World Cup fever has died down, our day campers enjoyed getting to kick around the ball.

Over the course of the session, Sports will be hosting a number of various activities and games.  On some days they play traditional games such as kickball and soccer, while other days are modified or adapted versions of these games.

We know that day campers like getting some time to run around and show their athletic abilities in Sports and we hope they have fun each day during this time.

Ships & Sailors in Sports

Counselors and campers awaiting
the next Captain call.
To continue the Congo Conquest competition, our Congo Campers competed in the game Ships & Sailors in Sports.

Ships & Sailors is based off the game "Simon Says", but it is a "Captain" that leads the game.  This "captain" says some of the normal "simon says" calls, but in Ships & Sailors there are a few unique calls.

One of these is the "octopus" in which campers form circles of four to have "eight legs"; another call is "three men in a boat" where campers must form groups of three.

The campers did quite well at this game and even a few of the day camp counselors participated in the game.

Obstructed by the Obstacles

Racing through the Obstacle Course.
For the Sports competition, our two sides had to make their way through the playground-turned-obstacle course to see which team could get all of their members through the quickest.

It was a fast-paced race of skill, ability, and speed as the Orange Lava tried to outdo the Green Slime on each leg of the race.  But, with determination, the Green Slime kept up with agility.

The teams cheered on their runners as they attempted each of the obstacles.  There was no shortage of Green or Orange spirit as the teams competed.

We hope these campers have fun as they race their way to finish lines today!

Playing the Game

The pregame huddle.
A major aspect of Sports is knowing the rules before playing the game.  Our Sports counselors help to ensure that our campers know the rules by having a pregame rules "huddle" before they get onto the field.

Each camper has to learn the basics of the game by listening to the way it is played and then responding to a few questions about what is going to happen.

It's great to hear our campers' knowledge on the various sports that they play in Sports and we hope they have fun playing those sports.

Goal!

Each day our Sports counselors keep our day campers moving and energized with various games and activities.

Take a glance at the Sports field any day and see our day campers throwing balls, hitting pins, and avoiding capture.

The campers love trying to score goals and make points for their groups, while simultaneously trying to prevent the other groups from scoring on them.

We hope our campers enjoy their time at Sports as much as we like watching them make goals during the games!

Quick Wits for Quidditch

As Harry Potter overtakes Congo Camp, the renowned game of Quidditch was enjoyed by campers and counselors during sports.

Although no Firebolts were in use, the teams blocked quaffles (foam balls) from getting into hoops, chased after the golden snitch (a tennis ball), and ensured that bludgers didn't prevent them from getting a goal.

The day campers enjoyed getting to have some time on the Quidditch pitch and honing in on their abilities.
