And the Winner is. . .

The Orange Lava's Friendship poster.
The Green Slime's Friendship Poster.
Orange Lava!

At the final Congo Conquest ceremony, the winner was announced and the two teams sang their songs.

By the end of the ceremony, all of one side cheered on the other to show that the Congo Camp Spirit was united once again.

We congratulate our Orange Lava team on an excellent Conquest and we commend both our teams on great sportsmanship.  Good job, Congo Campers!

Tough and Tiring Tug-o'-War

Cheering on the tuggers!
The Congo Conquest continued this morning as the teams competed in the Tug-O'-War competition.

Each side sent up one group of campers to compete against a group of campers from the other side.  The Orange Lava started off with a few wins in a row, but the Green Slime came back with a few wins also.

As camp groups went to tug, they tried their hardest to ensure they got a win.  The Orange Lava did end up gaining the win and we congratulate them on their victory!

Boating to the Finish Line

The S.S. Green Slime.
The S.S. Orange Lava.
The two Congo Conquest teams started off their morning (after the morning pump-up, of course) by having the boat race in the pool.

Each sides' leaders were building and constructing the boats yesterday and got to race them today.  Orange and Green were cheering on their sides as leaders Brian and Kathleen, respectively, raced to the finish line.

And the winner: the Orange Lava.  We congratulate them on their win in the boat race and we are all looking forward to seeing how each side does during the upcoming tug-o'-war.

Conquest: The Final Day

A few of our Green Slime campers.
Our day campers have been showing their skills as they complete various activities to try and earn points for their side.  The Orange Lava and the Green Slime have been trying their hardest to ensure that their team wins the Conquest.

Today, there are quite a few activities that are occurring during the morning.  The two sides will be starting the day in a Boat Race competition.  After the race, the two sides will compete in a tug-o'-war.

Showing the Orange Lava Pride!
Later, the Friendship sing and awards ceremony will occur.  By the end of the day, our two competing sides will be back to one United front and we will be back to our single Congo Camp spirit.

But, until then, we wish both sides good luck throughout the day of competition.

Ships & Sailors in Sports

Counselors and campers awaiting
the next Captain call.
To continue the Congo Conquest competition, our Congo Campers competed in the game Ships & Sailors in Sports.

Ships & Sailors is based off the game "Simon Says", but it is a "Captain" that leads the game.  This "captain" says some of the normal "simon says" calls, but in Ships & Sailors there are a few unique calls.

One of these is the "octopus" in which campers form circles of four to have "eight legs"; another call is "three men in a boat" where campers must form groups of three.

The campers did quite well at this game and even a few of the day camp counselors participated in the game.

Meet the Orange Lava Leaders

Jess, Bryan, and Abby: The Orange Lava Leaders
As the Green Slime leaders keep up their team spirit, the Orange Lava Leaders have been proudly leading their own team.

These leaders have been decked out in Orange from head-to-foot today and yesterday, and we can only expect they will be just as colorful tomorrow.  The Orange Lava leaders are Abby, Bryan, and Jess.

As you walk around campus, make sure to watch out for these Lava Leaders cheering on their team.

Picking up Pennies in the Pool

The buckets, the divers, and the counters.
At the pool, day campers were attempting a penny dive.  The object of a penny dive is to collect as many pennies from the floor of the shallow end of the pool and collect them in a bucket.

You may have guessed that the campers were attempting to gather the most pennies to win points for either the Orange Lava or Green Slime.

As they swam around, they had a few of their teammates ensuring that the pennies were getting dropped into the correct color bucket and keeping tabs on how many pennies their side had acquired.

We are awaiting the final count, which will be completed at the end of the day, but as of right now the teams seem neck-and-neck for the win.

Sam, Kathleen, and Kurt: The Green Slime Leaders.
As the teams compete, their leaders are keeping up the energy to ensure that the spirit for their side is clearly seen and heard.

The Green Slime leaders are showing their color with green shirts, green helmets, and green leis.  The Green Slime leaders are Kurt, Kathleen, and Sam.

Keep your eyes open for these leaders as they cheer on their side to a hopeful victory!

Every Limbo Boy and Girl. . .

A few of our Congo Campers showing their limbo skills.
All around the Congo Camp, campers were trying their hardest to gain points for the Orange or Green side. Today, limbo was one of the Congo Conquest events.

Each side was trying to make it under the limbo stick to keep their team in the game.

Watching our campers make their way under the limbo stick, one could easily see just how much rhythm and agility they were using to ensure their side stayed in the lead.

Good luck at the Limboing, campers!

Congo Conquest: Day 2

Even the Camp Office was decorated by
both sides.
We hope all our campers and counselors had fun during the first day of Congo Conquest.  Walking around, you could easily feel (and, see!) the Orange and Green spirit that was at Congo Camp.

Yesterday, each team competed to try and gain points for their side, and, at every activity, you could tell our campers were trying their hardest to score for their team.

We wish both of our teams good luck as they continue their competition today and we hope that they do well during each of the events.

Zippy Jests and Jokes

Zippy's new vehicle and Zippy's practical joke!
You may have noticed a jeep turned Congo Camp display when you drove onto or walked around campus yesterday and today.  Well, Zippy decided a practical joke was in order so our Congo Camp spirit could easily be seen off campus.

Zippy decided that sticking magnets to one of admin staff's jeep would be a fun way to make it more colorful and more spirited.  He also has claimed this vehicle as his own to ride around in when he gets the urge to get out of his shell.

He has been spying on both Congo Conquest sides to see how well they are doing, but he has stated that he will be remaining neutral throughout the competition.  He wishes both sides, "Good Luck", though, and will be out and about during the games!

Obstructed by the Obstacles

Racing through the Obstacle Course.
For the Sports competition, our two sides had to make their way through the playground-turned-obstacle course to see which team could get all of their members through the quickest.

It was a fast-paced race of skill, ability, and speed as the Orange Lava tried to outdo the Green Slime on each leg of the race.  But, with determination, the Green Slime kept up with agility.

The teams cheered on their runners as they attempted each of the obstacles.  There was no shortage of Green or Orange spirit as the teams competed.

We hope these campers have fun as they race their way to finish lines today!

Don't Lose Your Marbles

Campers attempting to grab the marbles.
All the day camp areas have a special activity planned for our Congo Conquest teams.  In Archery, the younger day campers are collecting marbles to earn points.  But, the difficulty is that they have to use their toes to pick up the marbles.

Each side (Orange Lava/Green Slime), had a kiddie pool in which to stick their feet and grab the marbles that lay at the bottom of the pool.

These campers were quite skilled at using their feet as hands and collected the marbles with ease.  We haven't heard the results from who is in the lead, but, as soon as we do, we will let you know!
