Tunneling through Friday in Book Making

Book Making has two major projects on which they will be working during their final day.

The first project is called a tunnel book. To make this book they actually cut out the inside of squares of paper and glued them together in a specific way to make it look like a paper tunnel.

After making this tunnel book, the Book Making campers started on Star Books. These books are one of the most intricate that they have made this week and they had all been anxiously waiting to begin them.

The counselors took it slow so each of the campers could ensure that they were keeping up with the directions and, as soon as these books are finished, we will have more pictures up to see them!

Flapping Flags in Book Making

The Book Making campers were testing out their ability to make a new book today: the flag book. No, the pages aren't filled with actual flags, but they are filled with paper "flags" that represent the campers' interests.

One of the campers drew a flower on each flag and created a botanist's dream book. Another camp decided to make a book for her brother.

As the end of the session slowly draws upon us, these campers are trying to complete as many books as they can before they camp ends.

We hope these campers have had fun making books during camp, because we all have enjoyed seeing their final products!

Stamps from Styrofoam and Books Abound

Book Making finished up their day by making a multilayered, accordion-folded book. After finishing the book, they prepared to add design to it by making stamps.

Although the idea of making a stamp may seem difficult, these campers had no problem with the task as they used styrofoam, markers, and a "bone" tool to make their own.
After finishing the stamps, they made paper to add onto their accordion-folded books. These campers definitely have what it takes to be the next Random House!

Fun with Four Pamphlet Books

In Book Making, the campers were folding Four Pamphlet books tied together with a Friendship knot.

These campers showed their patience as they followed the step-by-step directions laid out clearly by their counselor.

One of the great aspects of Book Making is that these students can easily cover their creations with pictures and designs and see a fantastic final product after all their hard work.

The campers have been showing an artistic eye when decorating, and ensure that their final Book Making products represent not only their creativity but also their excellent ability at crafting creations.

Photo Fun in Book Making

Our Book Makers started to make photo albums, today, by first completing some paper folding, then connecting various paper folds together, and finally cutting pictures to fit those folds.
These selfmade photo albums are unique because they are not only a book but also a hangable frame. Yesterday, these book making campers performed a practice run of making the photo albums. And, this morning, they did the final project using all of the unique papers they had.
It will be exciting to see the final photo albums completed and adorned with various family and friends' photos.

Backing Books with Board

Paper Arts & Book Making took their skills one step further by making hardcovers for their books.

They started their creation by turning simple sheets of paper into book pages. Then, after selecting a cover sheet, they cut it precisely to cover the boards they were using as the covers.
After a practice run, they took the marbled paper they had made last week and used it to cover their books.
Bounding the books shows these campers' abilities, and we are excited to see the final products of these hardcover creations!

Brown Bags into Brilliant Books

In Paper Arts & Book Making, the crafty campers turned normal brown lunch bags into Asian-inspired artistic books.

Folding the bags cleverly and punching holes in the right places, the campers developed these books with simplicity.

Now that they have used a multitude of bookmaking and paper arts techniques, the campers have started to blend more and more styles to take their constructions to the next level.
They are doing excellent work and really demonstrate, through this work, just how easy it is turn paper into something unique.

Book Makers make Match Books

Starting off a new day is always fun here at Congo Camp, and the Bookmaking campers started off their day by making matchbook books.

Although it looks like a regular matchbook design, once they put the pages in place this regular matchbook designed turned into a readable book.

Yesterday, these bookmaking campers finished off their day by accenting their previously made paste paper.

The Bookmakers are always intent on making sure their designs are the best they can be and many of them even want to miss pool to ensure their designs are precise and perfect! We are glad these Paper Arts & Bookmaking campers are having a great time this session in camp!

Paper Arts & Bookmaking started off their day with accordions. No, not the instrument but a unique fold.

For the lay person, folding a paper back and forth may seem like a simple task, but, for these arty campers, this simple fold can turn into a multitude of designs.

One of these designs is turning a simple fold into a pop-up book. Building upon the various folds they learned of the first two days of camps, these new accordion-fold books will definitely turn into something unique.

Paper Arts & Bookmaking started their week off by making. . . books! Constructing the book is easy, but deciding what goes in it is difficult.

After the campers have folded and creased their paper, they select whether they will use their name, a themed design, or some other idea to make the pages "pop" in the book.

As you flip through the books, you can tell these campers truly have an eye for how to engage their readers. They find great papers, colors, and designs that make each page of their books captivating and creative.
