Painting Pictures in Arts & Crafts

The images created by our day campers.
Arts & Crafts counselors led our younger day campers in fingerpainting pictures today.  Each picture had a unique design and represented something from the summer.

Each camper selected the color paper on which they wanted to work and then added the different paints to make the pictures.

Most of the campers used a flower-based scheme while a few developed more intricate and abstract images.  We hope these campers enjoy posting these wonderful paintings in their rooms once they can take them home.

Arts & Crafts Makes Candles

The campers dipping their candles.
The Arts & Crafts specialty camp finished off today by making candles.  They started with a wick on a popsicle stick and then selected their colors.

Once their colors were selected, the campers then started to dip the wicks.  Every time the wick was the dipped the candles just grew larger and larger.

As the candles grew, the campers ensured that the wax was hardened by dipping it into cold water.  The candles were rainbows of colors and looked excellent when completed.

Good job, campers!

From Clay Bowls to Glazed Bowls

Campers glazing their clay bowls.
Arts & Crafts specialty camp took the clay bowls they had made last week and finally started to glaze them.  The kiln cooked the clay and the bowls were ready for decoration this morning.

The campers each had a unique color scheme they were using and each color scheme definitely enhanced the beauty of the bowl.

Later this afternoon, our Arts & Crafts campers will be continuing to paint the clay pinchpot animals they made last week.  The animals all look excellent and we are looking forward to seeing how well they turn out after being painted.

Building Houses in Arts & Crafts

One of the popsicle stick houses.
Our Arts & Crafts specialty campers continued making new items today by constructing houses. These houses were made from popsicle sticks and glue.

These two materials helped these campers to develop some excellent houses and their constructions would definitely compare with Mr. Wright's.

Also, tomorrow, these campers will be painting the pinch-pot animals they made last week.  We are anticipating some well-decorated animals after they are finished.

Tie It then Dye It

Campers add color to their
plain white tees.
Arts & Crafts specialty camp did Tie-Dye this morning to start off the second week of session 4.  Each camper brought in a clean, white shirt and made it prettier with color.

From three basic colors (red, blue, and yellow), these campers were able to blend the colors to create even more colorful combinations.

These campers also made placemats this morning, decorating them with various paints to write names and make designs.
The placemats campers created.

We are looking forward to seeing the final tie-dyed products after they have dried tomorrow!

Basketweaving 101

A few of the baskets the campers were working on.
Arts & Crafts specialty campers created baskets today as they finished up the first week of session 4.

The process takes time, but these campers tried as hard as they could to make the pieces turn into a usable basket.

Our Arts & Crafts campers have enjoyed the various activities they have been completing this week, and we know that they are looking forward to the crafts of this coming week!

Elastic Loops into Useful Tools

Some of the pot holders before they
were finished.
Arts & Crafts camp started off their morning by using elastic loops and a loom to create pot holders that could be used by any chef.

Each crafter selected their colors and then started to loop and weave the elastic loops through the others.  As they looped and weaved, the pot holder designs started to form.

Some campers selected four colors while others only selected two--deciding to keep their woven pattern simple.

As they finished the weaving, the pot holders quickly came together as they freed the elastic loops from the loom.  Excellent job, Campers!

Pinch Pot Pig . . . among, Other Animals

The Arts & Crafts campers worked with clay today as they formed pinch pot animals.

These animals didn't just come together easily, though.  The campers had to roll, shape, and sculpt the clay to make their animal come to life.

A few chose a cat, a few an elephant, and we even had a few snails.  They definitely took their time to ensure that the animals looked lifelike and they are excited for when they get to see the final product after the kiln.

Making Birdhouses Beautiful

In the Arts & Crafts camp, our artists were painting the birdhouses they made yesterday.  Each group of campers selected the colors they wanted to use and, then, developed a design.
After developing their design, the campers delved into painting their birdhouses.  Each camper approached each birdhouse with a unique plan.

A few campers selected solid-colored sides, while other campers did stripes or similar patterns.  We are anxiously anticipating the final painted products!

Arts & Crafts Camp: Slap Bands to Start

A few of the bands the campers
have made!
In Arts and Crafts Camp, these creative campers started the week by decorating slap bands.  These bands curl around the wrist when pressed (or, smacked) against it.

The crafty campers drew their names and other designs onto the bands to show their personality and to learn about each other.

There are many events planned for the campers this week so be on the lookout for these young artists at work!
